Gasoline Expenses

December 24th, 2007 at 03:46 pm

Other than groceries, this is our most expensive expense. The rising gas prices have really put a crimp in our budget, but we've absorbed it and hopefully it will even out at some point (*crosses fingers).

Here are our gasoline expenses for the year 2007--may 2008 be cheaper:

Jan 2007: $403.91
Feb 2007: $357.68
Mar 2007: $375.32
Apr 2007: $477.23
May 2007: $530.63
Jun 2007: $321.40
Jul 2007: $81.58 (when DH was out of work)
Aug 2007: $449.57
Sep 2007: $507.77
Oct 2007: $608.95
Nov 2007: $601.38
Dec 2007: $475.71 (so far as of today...I'd say add another $55 to that at least for another tank of gas...thank goodness for days off from work!).

Wow! You guys must do a ton of driving. I fill my tank about 2 times/month. That runs about $40 each. DW probably fills up about 3 times/month. So all together, about $200/month.

What kind of work does your DH do? Obviously, it involves a tremendous amount of driving. Does he get reimbursed for any of the gas expenses, or are they at least deductible at tax time?

Actually we do a lot of driving. DH has to drive 114 miles every work day to get to and from work. He goes there...he parks...he drives back. But 5 days a week takes it's toll on the gas consumption. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of jobs here in the area for him, but we knew that when we moved and agreed to the sacrifices in order to live in a smaller town. Next year sometime his department will be moving 7 miles closer. It won't make a lot of difference, but 14 miles (round trip) is 14 miles. Nope no deductions for gas at tax time and no reimbursements. Just extra expenses to live out of the city.

I usually fill up about 2-3 times a month depending on what I have to do. I drop off and pick up the boys from school. Sometimes I have to go to St. Augustine, Jacksonville, or Daytona Beach for appointments for me or the boys.
